Do Video Games Create Virtual Psychopaths?

We are conditioned, for better and for worse, by what we are around in our daily lives. We are influenced by things we are consciously aware of as well as what flies under our radar, like the subliminal programming present in much electronic media.

The more repetitive, emotional and sensory the stimuli, the faster and deeper they go into the brain. This is no longer conjecture, this is neuroscience. When neural connections are made, mental habits are formed and behavior patterns are seeded.

This kind of programming can be used positively to improve skills, change habitual thoughts, alter behavior, achieve goals, break through limiting beliefs and so forth.

We now know that this programming can also be used to cause desensitization, where something that first was abhorrent, becomes accepted, turns habitual and then addictive. That is, the consumer of sensory and emotional stimuli develops a steadily stronger desire for that stimuli over time. This applies to actual experience and virtual experience.

Enter Video Games

If you’ve ever observed someone play video games over a the span of say, a few months, perhaps you’ve noticed these aspects of neuroplasticity in action.

By the time a young consumer of video games reaches the age of 18, he or she has been exposed to at least 200 thousand acts of violence and 40 thousand acts of murder. Many games are calibrated to the player’s skill, the more “successful” he or she is, the more violent the next level of play.

The scary thing about this is that because it’s a game, there are no real consequences for the player, other than their score. The removal of accountability and consequence is dangerous territory. Since there is no real psychological impact, there is no emotional reckoning. This means that the players of violent video games are growing up not to take life and death seriously.

Do video games create virtual psychopaths?

The majority of the best selling video games also happen to be the most violent. blur the distinction between the real and the unreal, between accountability and unaccountability. Video game players are conditioned to associate intense violence with competition, pleasure and excitation. In other words, the players are rewarded for their accuracy in and willingness to commit virtual violence.

Are video games more damaging than horror films?

Between 1980 and 2000, 10 billion dollars was spent on video games, five billion on movies. Graphical depictions of violence in video games have gone beyond realistic to amplified. Violent acts are rendered more gruesome than they would be in a film striving for realism.

Another distinction between television/film and video games is interactivity. Based on neuroscience, this suggests that minute for minute, video games have the potential to exert greater influence and thus do the most damage. As they become more sophisticated in all ways, this potency increases.

Is the rising rate of interpersonal violence related to media violence?

As bullying, teen dating abuse, domestic violence, animal torture, elder abuse and political tyranny all climb the charts, it makes sense to look at the meteoric rise of video games by consumers. We are well into the third decade of pale, flabby players who are letting themselves be programmed into thinking that violence is the way to set disputes or get the girl or have a laugh. These kids live in a virtual world and ride around with “No Fear” bumper stickers on the cars their parents bought for them.

nf

What do they know of fear, of courage, of accountability, of sacrifice or regret?

What price will they pay in their own lives for the misconceptions and misunderstandings they’re internalizing about how to live?

What price will others pay?

What shall we do?

Half a Trillion a Year to Treat Psychopaths

Psychopaths are by definition afflicted with organic brain damage that is permanent, progressive and irreparable. In other words, they are mentally ill forever, they get worse over time and there is no cure or treatment for their condition.

soul snatched by demons

The nature of their condition can be described as lack of empathy or incapacity for compassion. In other words, they have no conscience. They are dangerous in the extreme. They cannot be made benign. They are parasitical and predatory. Psychopaths do unspeakable things to babies, children, animals, elders, spouses, coworkers, neighbors, etc.

For the most people, this condition and the consequences it unleashes wherever it exists are impossible to imagine. It is beyond awful to be on the receiving end of it as any partner, family member or co-worker can attest.

In the course of “sorting it all out” for myself, I began to see patterns at work in my husband’s pathological behavior. (It is one thing to read a book about psychopathy or observe psychopaths in clinical settings, it is something else entirely to be with one 24/7. There is no putting the book down, or getting “rotated out” after a certain amount of time as is done where psychopaths are studied.)

The behavior patterns are the beginning of major revelations and they are crucial for taking stock. The human equation in a pathological relationship contains patterns that reveal character and likely behaviors, if you know what to look for and how to connect the dots.

  • In perpetrators, you see callousness, shallowness, promiscuity, parasitism and predation–and a strong drive to control.
  • In targets, you see compliance, tolerance, forbearance, kindness and high willingness to trust–and relational illiteracy.

Relationship statistics show that very few people possess any knowledge of the universal warning signs of relationships that turn. They also lack a healthy self image. This is a recipe for interpersonal disaster. These two conditions can come together in a deadly combination when a psychopathic predator enters the picture.

Psychopaths aren’t the only abusive individuals on the loose in society, there are a number of personality disorders (narcissism, sociopathy, anti-social, borderline personality) that wreak havoc on others, but psychopaths are the root cause of the most damage and worst suffering in the world.

psychos in ceos

According to one of the leading authorities on psychopathy, Robert Hare, PhD, the US is now spending in excess of 460 billion dollars a year to study, treat and repair the damage done by psychopaths. The Canadian prison system where Hare worked was spending huge sums trying to develop treatments for psychopaths. Hare finally called a halt to this when advances in neuroscience proved his theory that they are permanently and irredeemably damaged. They cannot be cured or even made benign. Those who have received extensive study and treatment simply become more cunning and diabolical.

Before the phenomenal advances in neuroscience of the last two decades, researchers used to be confounded by the psychopaths seemingly stubborn resistance to change. No matter how much treatment they received, their baseline pathological behaviors and responses did not improve or even stay the same, they got worse. Neuroscience has shown that their failure to respond to treatment is not willful, it’s organic. Psychopaths will never change because they can’t, their brains are damaged.

The next question that comes to mind might well be: if they’re hopelessly dangerous but not treatable, what should we do with them?

Every community in every country would do well to have a serious discussion about this, make a plan and execute it with liability for outcomes appropriately assigned.

“I Did It Because I Could…”

Sent to me on Facebook today:

“Marina Abramović is best known for her performance pieces, in which she tries to explore what is possible for an artist to do in the name of art. Her best known piece was the recent “The Artist Is Present,” in which she sat motionless for 736.5 hours over the course of three months, inviting visitors to sit opposite her and make eye contact for as long as they wanted. So many people began spontaneously crying across from her that blogs and Facebook groups were set up for those people.

marina2

Her bravest piece, however, is my favorite. This piece was primarily a trust exercise, in which she told viewers she would not move for six hours no matter what they did to her. She placed 72 objects one could use in pleasing or destructive ways, ranging from flowers and a feather boa to a knife and a loaded pistol, on a table near her and invited the viewers to use them on her however they wanted.

Initially, Abramović said, viewers were peaceful and timid, but it escalated to violence quickly. “The experience I learned was that … if you leave decision to the public, you can be killed… I felt really violated: they cut my clothes, stuck rose thorns in my stomach, one person aimed the gun at my head, and another took it away. It created an aggressive atmosphere. After exactly 6 hours, as planned, I stood up and started walking toward the public. Everyone ran away, escaping an actual confrontation.”

This piece revealed something terrible about humanity, similar to what Philip Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment or Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiment, both of which also proved how readily people will harm one another under unusual circumstances.

marina3

The artist says she constructed this as a “trust exercise” but obviously some people took it as a dare or an invitation to act out. Isn’t it interesting that some people ran away when she walked toward them showing that they did not want to confront the reality they were willing to observe.

I have observed a similar thing in road etiquette–some people will do outrageous things when they’re anonymous and protected behind the wheel that they would not dare do when face-to-face.

People show you what they are by what they do, and when they can do anything they want, their behavior may be dangerous.

What I Want For President’s Day

Instead of the same, old boring, meaningless, expensive rituals attached to what’s left of this once illustrious day in this once illustrious country, you know what I’d like to see the president do? (First of all, I’d like to see a REAL president–natural born citizen, a scholar, statesman, role model–dream on.)

But anyway, since things are getting so dire so fast, I’d like to see the president, his entire administration (past and present), the entire congress, the supremes, officers of the fed and lobbyists go get SCANNED for PSYCHOPATHY.

ps

Psychopathy is an increasingly hot topic these days, but here‘s a decent working definition:

“psychopathy is a mental disorder marked by affective, interpersonal and behavioral abnormalities. In particular, people with psychopathy demonstrate an incapacity for empathy and guilt, impulsivity, egocentricity and chronic violations of social, moral and legal norms…”

Thought leaders in psychology and theology refer to psychopaths as morally insane and demon possessed, respectively.
To keep things honest at the Psychopathic Screening of the American Government and Its Directors, there will be random scans done of those administering the double-blind scans and those investigating the cases of the employees found to be mentally ill.
At the very least, this would serve as a chastening reminder to those who turn out not to be mentally ill that they are public servants.
ps1
  • Those who are found to be psychopathic will be removed along with their ill-gotten gains and pensions, their records seized and reviewed with a fine-tooth comb.
  • Those who are borderline psychopaths will be put into positions that offers them NO ACCESS to prey items (women, children, drugs, money, wmd, power, blackmail, etc.) or influence. Their records and staff will be vigorously investigated.
  • Those who are not psychopathic will continue in their positions under the appropriate scrutiny.

There would be nothing to lose and everything to gain for those of us who love this country, its divine blessings and original principles.

The Missouri Milk Board is a Bunch of Psychopaths or They’re Very Scared of a Bigger Psychopath

There are two kinds of psychopaths, primary and secondary. The first hatches the idea, the second implements it. They need each other.

Here’s a recent example of secondary psychopaths “just doing their job” which is the annihilation of a family business that had been providing a valuable product to its customers for over three decades:

“Morningland Dairy, a family business that has been in operation for over 30 years without a single complaint or report of any illness has ceased today…The real crime they are being persecuted for is producing cheese with raw milk. Whether the state wants to admit it or not, that is what their real charge is… This should be the shot heard ’round the rural world. What has been done to this family is a travesty of justice. Their livelihood has been destroyed. These are good people who ran an honest business. How much more tyranny will we tolerate before we tell the state, Enough!”

You can read more about the backstory and the raid itself here and here.

Morningland Dairy operated their business for over 30 years without complaint or incident. Read up on the anti-aging, rejuvenating health benefits of raw milk for yourself. It’ll open your eyes to the real reason “they” are warring against natural products.

Actions Speak Loudest

We may never know who exactly is behind this criminal action against an honest business because “they” hide. But this is what their actions show: cowardice, deceit, fraud, insanity, megalomania. And this is what their actions result in: waste, destruction, pain, suffering.

These perpetrators are psychopaths, these implementers are secondary psychopaths.

There are a lot of descriptors that can be attached to psychopathy, but if I had to choose just one, it would be destruction, because that is  the result of their insanity, that is the result of their existence.

Raw milk is life-giving; those who war against it are sick and sickening.

There Are Jimmy Saviles Everywhere

The Jimmy Savile story breaking in the United Kingdom and across Europe holds many keys to understanding how a predator can move through society undetected for decades.

As Savile rose to prominence at the BBC, he worked an ever larger pool of victims. My guess is that we will learn there are/were other pedophiles in other places who helped him. When multiple pedophiles work together, there are often more than sexual crimes committed against the child prey objects.

Remember, Savile was given his own quarters in a hospital, which was just one of his bases of operation. Stop and think about the reality of a grown man who preys on women and children in hospital. His prey were weakened by drugs, sickness, injury and/or pain; they were also unconscious and/or immobilized to a great degree. He openly expressed concern for their corpses and was known to hang out in the morgue, saying he liked to “take care of them.”

A prey in constraining circumstances is advantageous to a predator. Savile likely started out as an opportunistic predator and then developed preferences as he became more and more influential and got greater access to people.

So far, from the accounts of over 600 people, there are 214 confirmed criminal assaults, including 34 full rapes. Three fourths of his victims were children and teenagers, over 80 percent female. His crime spree spanned at least 54 years, from 1955 through 2009.

It should be noted that when women began to come forward in recent years, while Savile was still alive, they were not told that others had done likewise. They were lead to think they were lone-nut complainers despite the fact that other corroborating accounts were already on the books. The police, the media, the hospitals and the BBC are all going to pay a very public price for dropping the ball on this one.

My personal hope is that the wave of revelations brings other pedophiles and psychopathic predators out of high places so they can be removed.

Predators go where their prey is. No exceptions. You always find them working with children and animals. No exceptions. This is why I support the death penalty for child abuse and animal abuse. I know firsthand that what you tolerate increases.

The remedy will only come when enough people see evil for what it is and remove it. You can’t get rid of evil by fining it or passing laws against it or impeaching it or censoring it or locking it up in prison or sending it to anger management classes. You get rid of evil by removing it before it does any more damage because that is all it can do: destroy.

The Gangs of Amerika

Red Flags Rating: 5/5, Red for Pathological

It’s incredible how similar is the pathological conduct of organizations when compared to the pathological conduct of individuals—it’s just done on a different scale with different weapons, but the same ammunition: deceit and murderous intent. The take away for each and every person who wants to live with the freedom of self determination is to see and understand what they see.

The most effective efforts to control and destroy fly under the radar. It gets by you without your recognizing it for what it really is. They are counting on you not seeing it or understanding it. This is how they do it right under your nose and get away with it.

This is the nature of evil, it makes no sense, it defies logic, experience, intuition and fairness. And it targets good. That’s its job. It promulgates filth of every kind as you can see by a review of what’s happening in the halls of big business and governments of all levels.

mi

Remember, the original definition of the organic brain damage we know as psychopathy today was “moral insanity.” The people in positions of influence and control show us everyday that they are insane.

Economic annihilation is a central pillar in all pathological relationships. Removing financial resources puts needed things out of reach; it also immobilizes. Once the prey item is unable to get what he or she needs, the blood feast can begin.

Those who say that depressions are transfers of wealth are absolutely right. The money isn’t lost, it’s moved. And we’re watching it happen.

“Sachs says the main thing to remember about the corporatocracy is that it looks after its own. ‘There is absolutely no economic crisis in corporate America. Consider the pulse of the corporate sector as opposed to the pulse of the employees working in it: corporate profits in 2010 were at an all-time high, chief executive salaries in 2010 rebounded strongly from the financial crisis, Wall Street compensation in 2010 was at an all-time high, several Wall Street firms paid civil penalties for financial abuses, but no senior banker faced any criminal charges, and there were no adverse regulatory measures that would lead to a loss of profits in finance, health care, military supplies and energy,’ he says.

“The 30-year achievement of the corporatocracy has been the creation of America’s rich and super-rich classes, he says. And we can now see their tools of trade.”

Read more here.
Things speak for themselves and people show you what they are by what they do. The entire military/industrial complex is illegitimate. It is based on fraud, corrupt, illegal, immoral, unconstitutional. Like the individual psychopaths, the organizations full of psychopaths need to be purged or removed entirely.
The remedy will only come when enough people see it for it is and remove it. You can’t get rid of evil by fining it or passing laws against it or impeaching it or censoring it or locking it up in prison or sending it to anger management classes. Irretrievably Broken

Red Flags Rating: 5/5, Red for Pathological
redstarredstarredstarredstarredstar

It’s one thing to be able to recognize an aberration when it is new to you, but it’s something else entirely to be able to recognize it when you were raised with it.

The US economy is just one example of something so corrupt and fraudulent that continues to exist because people can’t see what it is and where it’s taking us.

mpp

It is insupportable and unsustainable. It is the product of some of the most diseased minds in human history.

The following article is reprinted in its entirety from The Economic Collapse Blog

If Barack Obama can “solve” the debt ceiling crisis by printing up some trillion dollar coins, then why does the federal government need our money?

As another debt ceiling showdown approaches, many in the liberal media are suggesting that if Congress does not raise the debt ceiling that Obama should just have the U.S. Treasury create a trillion dollar platinum coin and use it to pay our bills.  It sounds crazy, but many notable voices (including Paul Krugman of the New York Times) are supporting this idea.  But if the federal government has had the power to create trillion dollar coins out of thin air all this time, then why do we have to pay taxes?  Not only that, why do we have a national debt?

If the federal government can just create money whenever it wants, then why does the federal government ever have to borrow it from others?  The U.S. Constitution actually grants Congress the power to “coin money”, so why is the Federal Reserve doing it?  Those are some very important questions.  Most Americans don’t even realize that the U.S. government never actually needed to borrow a single penny from anyone else.  The U.S. Congress has the authority to create debt-free money whenever it wants to.  Conceivably, the entire federal government could be funded without ever borrowing a single dollar and without ever receiving a single dollar from any of us in taxes.  Just imagine that – a nation without a single penny of national debt, no income tax and no IRS.  What a wonderful world that would be.  Of course there would be other potential dangers under such a system (such as runaway inflation), and those dangers would have to be addressed.  But the truth is that we don’t have to have an income tax or 16 trillion dollars of government debt.  We only have those things because we have chosen to have those things.

Sometimes, a crisis can illuminate options that most people had not considered previously.  As another debt ceiling crisis draws closer, many are looking for ways for the U.S. government to be able to continue to pay its bills if Congress does not authorize an increase in the debt ceiling.

If a debt ceiling agreement is not worked out, the U.S. government will soon only be able to pay about half the bills that are coming due after interest payments on the national debt (which will almost certainly be prioritized) are made.

That is why a lot of people on the left are pushing the “trillion dollar coin” alternative.  So how would this work exactly?  The mechanics were recently explained by Jim Pethokoukis on his American Enterprise Institute blog

There are limits on how much paper money the U.S. can circulate and rules that govern coinage on gold, silver, and copper.  BUT, the Treasury has broad discretion on coins made from platinum.  The theory goes that the U.S. Mint would create a handful of trillion dollar (or more) platinum coins.  The President would then order the coins deposited at the Fed, who would then put the coin(s) in the Treasury who now can pay all their bills and a default is removed from the equation.  The effects on the currency market and inflation are unclear, to say the least.

In my opinion, if anyone in the federal government is going to be creating money out of thin air, it should be the U.S. Congress.  After all, according to Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, it is the U.S. Congress that has been granted the authority to “coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures”.

But those that are pushing Obama to create a “trillion dollar coin” point to a law that Congress passed that allows the U.S. Treasury to mint platinum coins.  The following is from a recent CNN article

Normally, the Federal Reserve is charged with issuing currency. But U.S. law, specifically 31 USC § 5112, also grants Treasury permission to “mint and issue platinum bullion coins and proof platinum coins.”

This section of law was meant to allow for the printing of commemorative coins and the like. But the Treasury Secretary has the authority to mint these coins in any denomination he or she sees fit.

But it wouldn’t quite be that easy.  According to a recent ABC News article, some elements of the coin design would have to be determined by legislation…

The more difficult part comes sometime after the decision is made to coin the platinum and before the Mint gets to work in sculpting the pieces.

At that point, the American people must decide whose face will adorn the trillion dollar trinket. The process to determine the “specs” of the coin, U.S. Mint Public Affairs Specialist Genevieve Billia warns, must be “determined by legislation,” creating the potential for another congressional impasse.

So we would likely end up back at square one.

But if printing up a “trillion dollar coin” does not work out, Paul Krugman of the New York Times has come up with another option

Don’t like the platinum coin option? Here’s a functionally equivalent alternative: have the Treasury sell pieces of paper labeled “moral obligation coupons”, which declare the intention of the government to redeem these coupons at face value in one year.

It should be clearly stated on the coupons that the government has no, repeat no, legal obligation to pay anything at all; you see, they’re not debt, and therefore don’t count against the debt limit. But that shouldn’t keep them from having substantial market value.

Of course there is a very, very low probability that any of these wild ideas will ever be tried, but this debate has raised some very interesting points.

The truth is that we do not have to have a system where more money is only created when more debt is created.  We could have a system where the federal government directly creates debt-free money that is spent directly into circulation by the federal government.

In fact, this has happened before.

As I have written about previously, during the presidency of JFK a limited number of debt-free United States Notes were issued by the U.S. Treasury and spent by the U.S. government directly into circulation without any new debt being created.  In fact, each bill said “United States Note” right at the top.

Unfortunately, after JFK’s presidency no more debt-free United States Notes were ever issued.

But even before JFK, there were times when debt-free United States Notes were being used.  According to Wikipedia, United States Notes were first used during the Civil War….

They were originally issued directly into circulation by the U.S. Treasury to pay expenses incurred by the Union during the American Civil War. Over the next century, the legislation governing these notes was modified many times and numerous versions have been issued by the Treasury.

So why are we using debt-based Federal Reserve Notes today instead of debt-free United States Notes?

If the Federal Reserve did not exist and the U.S. government directly created money instead of borrowing it, it is conceivable that we could have a national debt of $0.00 today instead of $16,432,707,263,449.56.

Which option do you think our children and our grandchildren will wish that we had opted for?

In a system where the government directly created money, it is also conceivable that we could completely do away with the income tax and the IRS completely.  The U.S. once prospered greatly without an income tax, and it could do so again.

And the truth is that our system of taxation is broken beyond repair.  If you doubt this, just read this article.

So what would the downside be to such a system?  Well, of course rampant inflation would be a huge danger.  Allowing Congress to print up money whenever they wanted to would be playing with fire.  That is why it would be imperative for there to be a hard cap on what the federal government could spend.  For example, you could set the cap on spending by the federal government at 20 percent of GDP.  That way we would hopefully never end up looking like the Weimar Republic.

And the current federal debt could be paid down a little at a time using newly created debt-free currency.  This would have to be done slowly to keep inflation under control, but it could be done.

Of course if you wanted to continue to fund the federal government through taxation, there are other options that would still allow you to do away with the income tax.  For example, one of the ways that our founders intended for the federal government to be funded was through tariffs, and we could definitely raise a lot of money that way.  Plus, that would have the added benefit of making American companies much more competitive again and it would reduce the flow of American jobs out of the country.

So am I in favor of having Barack Obama create a trillion dollar coin to get around the debt ceiling crisis?

Most definitely not.  If it does not violate the letter of the Constitution (which I believe it does), it sure does violate the spirit of it.

But if the U.S. Congress decided to shut down the Federal Reserve and the IRS and they decided to abolish the income tax, and instead they started directly issuing debt-free currency directly into circulation, that is something I would very much be in favor of.

Yes, that system would not be perfect either, but it would be far more preferable to what we have today.

Why Lawyers Deserve Their Bad Rep

redstar redstar redstar Red Flags Rating: Red for Pathological

This is from Reuters:

(Reuters) – The lawyer who filed and then quickly withdrew a $100 million legal claim against the state of Connecticut in the wake of the deadly Newtown elementary school shooting said on Wednesday his motive in the case is to prevent future school massacres and that he continues to investigate evidence for a future claim.

New Haven, Connecticut-based attorney Irving Pinsky, appearing on CNN, said his job is “to stop this happening again.”

Read more here.

ip

This card-carrying lawyer thinks a law or a lawsuit will stop the behavior of deranged persons–such as shooting up a schoolroom of first graders. Is this a publicity stunt or what?

This notion would be ludicrous if not for the agony. Laws don’t stop the lawless.

(This is why so many women are assaulted and murdered after getting protection orders. The deranged do not pay attention to protection orders. These pieces of paper generate revenue for the court system–that’s all they’re good for. They are not just a waste of the woman’s time and money, they are a serious and sometimes deadly provocation to whoever is threatening her.)

gmi

The Futility of Laws for the Lawless

As discussed in multiple posts about the most deranged (psychopaths), these creatures consider themselves above the law. Any judge or lawyer who does not possess this fundamental knowledge about criminal psychology should go back to school or go home and live with his mother.

Pinsky’s story gets a big BS call from me. He is out for bucks. He is just another lawyer jacked up on his position who sees an opening to make some money on the unutterable suffering that began that awful day in December.

The only word I can use to describe the behavior of someone trying to get their grubby hands on 100 million dollars from the state coffers because of the massacre of 20 children is GROTESQUE. I would say “shame on him,” but I would be wasting my breath because people who pull this sort of thing can’t feel shame. They will do anything they can to get what they want.

Maybe someone in the Connecticut Bar will address this. But then, maybe not. This sort of thing feeds the system.

I’m sure there will be more where this came from. We shall see.

Getting Real About Evil

It’s truly disturbing (and also very telling) to see how parasites and predators react when someone is stricken. Lawyers aren’t the only ones who do it. Have you ever seen a mortician in action? Everyone with some “force” of office is poised to jump down the throat of the next innocent victim that passes by.

The remedy will only come when enough people see it for it is and remove it. You can’t get rid of evil by passing laws against it or impeaching it or censoring it or locking it up in prison or sending it to anger management classes or putting it on parole. You get rid of evil by removing it before it hurts someone else.
